I've got my Alienware 14" laptop sat on a cooling tray at the side of my desk, with my monitor/keyboard/mouse etc plugged into it.

90% of the time it is now used as a standard desktop gaming machine. Should I remove the battery as I seem to remember being told heat is bad for them?

edit: its a 2014 not 2015

I would, it's not great for them just being left plugged in to the charger all the time and getting hot.

No harm doing it - could potentially prolong battery useful life, generally they are designed for the setup so won't be hugely detrimental left in either.

Once the battery is charged the laptop will stop charging it and use mains power if available. On modern laptops leaving the battery in is perfectly fine and also handy if you have a power cut. :)
