Hi All,

Just to put you all in the picture, around 2 months ago I purchased a second hand Alienware Aurora R4 with the following specification:

i7-3820 @ 3.60GHz
16GB DDR3
Dell/Alienware Motherboard (07JNH0)
AMD Radeon HD7870
Alienware Water Cooling

This is my first look into the world of PC gaming although I have always been a console gamer. Having played a couple of titles on the R4 I soon started to realise how good the graphics on a PC could be compared to a console and I got the itch to start upgrading the system.

Fast forward a couple of months and Santa kindly brought me a Radeon RX480 (8GB) which I installed and have to say made a huge difference to game play. I then started to get a little annoyed by the size, weight and noise of the Aurora case, it just stat under my desk taking up space and I couldn't really show it off! So, yesterday I purchased a Corsair Spec-Alpha case (Red and Black), Corsair H80i V2 water cooling unit and a Corsair CX750M power supply.

Fast forward another couple of hours and I have dismantled the R4 and rebuilt it again into the new case and fitted the new water cooler and PSU........brilliant.........well, it would be but I am having a few small issues and I believe it may all centre around the Motherboard.

So, finally to the point - I would like to upgrade the motherboard which I believe will probably mean I need to upgrade the CPU and Memory as well? I am not a full time / huge gamer so I haven't got to have the most expensive/latest equipment but would like to improve on what I already have. I do know my way around a PC but start getting a little lost when it comes i3, i5 and i7 processors and whether, for example, a modern i3 processor could potentially be better then my current i7.

Any advice would be much appreciated to help me upgrade.

Many thanks
James
