So just ordered the AW3225QF 4k OLED

Upgrading from the AW3423DW

But theres info online that isn't very clear

So this monitor is capable of 4K 240Hz

But people are saying that DP 1.4 cannot cover 240Hz

Especially if you have a Nvidia card coz they have not jumped to DP 2.1 like AMD GPU's

Does that mean if you connect this monitor to a Nvidia 40 series card then you wont experience 240Hz because DP 1.4 doesn't support 240Hz ?

Cheers

Hi there!

To get 4k 240Hz via DP 1.4, DSC (Display Stream Compression) will need to be used iirc the AW3225QF uses DSC, they claim the compression to be visually lossless - I cant comment if this is true as I dont have the monitor.

So to answer the question, you can use the nvidia 4000 series cards via DP 1.4 4k 240Hz if DSC is used.

Another thing to note the AMD DP 2.1 isnt the full bandwith version.

Hope this helps!
hi thanks

so DSC (Display Stream Compression) how is this enabled, like is it somthing thats enabled in the settings or is this enabled by default?

aah ok thanks, will be very interesting to see how this will work on a 4090 @4k at full 240hz

I generally max out the graphics settings and leave DLSS off as I dont use it on a 3440x1440 panel, I dont think it will
go past 100FPS unless I lower the graphic settings, enable DLSS on performance mode, maybe then you might get 200FPS but this will look
quite horrible, loads of testing to do.
