I currently have the Alienware but have recently upgraded to an RX 6800. The Alienware is G-Sync only and VRR cannot be used with my new GPU but i've seen the new Samsung G5 34" for £499.

I can currently get about £560 for my Alienware on ebay which means after ebay tax it will be pretty much a straight swap for the Samsung which is Freesync Premium certified and 165hz VA panel.

Do you think this is a good swap for the addition of VRR or do think it's best to stick with my potentially "higher quality" Alienware 120hz IPS but with no VRR?

I would go for it. The Alienware is an extremely good monitor, but not being able to use the adaptive sync is like having an icecream when you allergic to milk. Unless you are prepared to spend a lot more on something like the AW3821DW, which I believe does work with Freesync, then the best policy seems to be to go sideways. Adaptive sync is one of the best innovations to come in for years, so yes, to me, it's well worth the sideways shift.

I'm thinking more like doing it, only problem is that there are zero reviews of the Samsung. Looks like it only actually launched in the last week or two. Nothing on YouTube or any website. Only thing I found was from CNET Korea which was basically an 8 min spec rundown and didn't actually tell you if it is was any good. One of the worst monitor reviews I've ever seen.
