Hi everyone i just got myself a alienware 15 with a gtx 1080, warranty runds out novemember so is there any common faults on these machines ?

I have ran a hardware test and passes ok on alienware support center

My last one had to have keyboard replaced so maybe i will make sure thats fine but anything else i should look out for or tests i should run as just got from ebay

Also just read it might be worth checking my warranty incase covers accidental damage to see if can get small dents in the lid sorted, any idea how i check to make sure my name on the warranty? I can check in support center and lets me know date runs out but not name on account etc

Thanks dean

Anyone got any advice on commom faults etc ? And whats opinions on warranty extension ? It is expensive but what you think is it worth paying £200-400 for extension for year or 2

Thanks dean

The only thing I've seen about these is look at replacing the thermal paste and pads on the laptop. I have the older R1 version with an amplifier and it's been fine for over 2 years like this, but that shuts off the internal 970m so less heat is produced ect.

I wouldn't pay anything for a warranty. There are enough YouTube tutorials and help online to help you with any issue that might occur.

Guarantee if you get a problem a million people have had it before and there will be a solution online somewhere.

Thanks i know what you mean it turns a cheap laptop into expensive if get more warranty, was used to do VR demos and when removed bottom the fans were quite dirty so cleaned hopefully not much happens.

How do i check temps etc appart from doing dell hardware tests as want much as possible done before warranty out ?

I am only a casual gamer that will play rts games like total war and city skylines and they are billions, frost punk etc but not for hours and hours constantly so hopefully lasts me a good 4 year or so.

Thanks dean

I use asus AI suite that came bundled with my motherboard to monitor my temperatures and fans.

You should be able to download something similar from your motherboard manufacturers website.

Will have a look maybe dell have something similar, what temps are classed as to high ?

What else would you check and test before warranty out ?

Everyone has their own opinion but honestly I feel that keeping the cpu under 40-45 degrees Celsius while gaming is ideal.

This will no doubt be harder to achieve on a laptop than a desktop.

I only have a stock cooler and rear fan and while I'm working on my vm my cpu sits at 25 degrees Celsius.

My case probably attribites to it being low since its a Cooler Master Mastercase pro 6 and has great airflow and detachable panels.

40-45 sounds more like idle temperatures for a laptop, especially a gaming laptop with discrete GPU. Even for desktop that's low. My water cooled system sits 45-52 under load.

There are many contributing factors to achieving a low cpu temp not just one thing. My temp would be a lot higher if I had a small cramped case with restricted airflow even with a water cooling system.

Achieving a low cpu temp on a laptop is obviously going to be a struggle because there are so many limitations in comparison to a desktop.
