Got an m7700 area 51 off of ebay but having some troubles with it.

It has a P4 3.2, and with the power plugged in it's at 3200mhz, unplug and rely on the battery and it becomes 2617mhz. No idea why.

Is this normal?

It might some energy saver mode?

Or maybe that Intel SpeedStep or whatever it's called?

When it drops to 2.6mhz, it is silly slow, like over 1 minute do go through one loop of superpi (1mb).

Just having firefox open it slows to a crawl.

Is there a way to disable speedstep?

The battery lasts under an hour as it is:(#

Also, I didn't think a non mobile p4 3,2 prescott had speedstep.

'Think 2.6Ghz is a drop, my laptop drops to 800Mhz when i unplug it!

It probably isn't possible to do anything about it. See what voltage your CPU is getting when it's plugged in and unplugged. I suppose you've already tried alternative battery modes, right?

How much ram does this laptop have ?

It has 1GB of ram.

I'll look in the BIOS later, but I'm thinking if I run at 3.2 the battery may last less than 10 minutes.

Cheers for the help all.

Building P4 laptops was a bad idea - good for gaming, but don't think of running it on batteries....

Aye brothers 2.4ghz P4 battery lasts less than 2 hours even with the screen off (used it as a HTPC to a 28" TV)
