Alienware M15x

I'm not sure quite how the 260M compares to the 5850 (I'd assume the 5850 would win, but I really don't know), but you can get a similarly specced laptop with the 5850 in for just under £1k if I remember correctly.

NOT ALLOWED

Well, it looks like I'm not allowed to say where it's from, but luckily for you, it's in the post above this one anyway, I guess he's allowed?

:P

I have had the clevo discussed above and I now own an M15x.

I wasnt impressed with the build quality and speakers of the clevo. The m15x is in a different league. Plus I like the backlit keyboard (and have turned the rest of the lights off). The performance of the 5870 is better than the 260m but you can get a 5850 version from Dell and its the same as a 5870 but 75mhz slower.

Also I bought my m15x for £1020 from Dell with specs:
i5 540m (I am not impressed with the i7 cpu's and they kill batt life)
260m
900p screen (which is amazing quality, much better than the 1080p on my clevo) you can also upgrade to 1080p for £20
4gb ram
500gb 7200 HDD
DVD-RW slot load
1yr onsite warranty.

I wish OCUK would offer more config options

How did you get that specification so cheap? Trying to configure those options now and its quoting over £1,400.

I cant link you as it is against the rules but there is a deal if you search the net. My deal has gone now, but there is another that is pretty good, search m15x and either n00w1504 or n00w1503, they come in at 1179 for i5 or 1199 for i7.

Make sure you use quidco and get another 10% off.

I have the M15x and actually bought it from OcUK, mostly because it came with the 3 years extended warranty.

I am extremely happy with it, had it a couple of months now and ofcourse it won't run the latest titles completely maxxed, but it runs Source games maxxed at a solid 60fps unless the s*** really hits the fan in L4D, and runs WoW like a dream at 1080 also. Everything else it manages pretty well.

Truly an amazing machine but don't expect to be carrying it everywhere, its heavy and the battery's rubbish. Also don't bank on using the touchpad as it's terrible, supposedly a fix for the drivers is due this month but I never have a use for the trackpad anyway.
