Alienware M18x - Microphone?

Hi,

I have a late 2011 M18x (R1) and have been trying to use Skype recently, I can't seem to see an inbuilt microphone on the laptop (USB / plugged into the jacks works fine)

does the laptop even have one?

Try installing the latest audio drivers and see if that works.

According to the dell website, the newest M18x webcam has one with it.

It definitely has a microphone as I have used it.
