Hi My son wanted to upgrade RAM on his Alienware Aurora R4 from 4 x2GB to 4 x 8GB (don't ask me why) - we rang Dell who on being given the kit no of the Kingston Hyper X beast RAM (KHX24C11T34/32X) said it was compatible. We bought the kit from overclockers and had PC World install it but they could only get 3 out of the 4 sticks to install (all 4 checked and working and different slots used) so they have installed 3 leaving one original stick. The machine is fine but I don't understand why they could not get the 4 sticks to work. Rang Dell who said because we have used non DELL RAM they cant help! SO any info would be welcomed and I am sure I read somewhere that sticks should be installed in pairs and am worried that this mismatched pair may cause issues. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

only advice i would give. Dont go to PC Work for anything - "Money to burn" comes to mind.

im sure someone on here might be able to help. Unfortunately laptop advice isnt my area

An Alienware Aurora R4 is a deaktop PC, the clue being that he said 4 sticks of RAM :)

But agreed, shouldn't have taken it to PC World. Installing RAM takes seconds and plenty of videos on YouTube on how to do it.

@nontecchiemum

what area do you live in. maybe some forum members live close / could reccoment local techie for you.

could be a faulty memory slot.

might be an idea to do some memtest 86+ runs to see if anything shows up there

do the 4 stick show in the bios?or just 3 sticks?
