ive an alienware pc on vista 32bit ultimate got 2nd hand guy corrupted registry when he wiped drives as cd drive wouldn't comm with system so needed reinstall of op system as a bit green with pc's took to shop with all my discs for it but they installed their copy of vista but put my lic number onit? lost my alien FX which does lights etc also noticed in bios it does not give or list other fans only graphics/cpu and one other. thinking of reinstalling original discs will lose whats on pc but not to worry.he says it would have had same problem if he had used my discs? cant see how as was on service pack 1 before&still is now and problem was how drives where wiped?
But was wondering if anyone knew what difference their was with alienwares original op vista and shop/retail/oem?or whatever it is i have now?
and if worth reinstalling original discs? ive updated all the drivers as had graphics issues! i know its a dell company off shoot! and dell write loads of bits in theirs? 1 i know i didn't get loads of vista rubbish on welcome screen trying to sell you stuff.orig gave you link direct to alienwares site and help.
cheers all.

OEM's can customise the installation media they supply.
Sony for example add numerous applications to their installation media and once the reinstallation is completed you'll have AV software, etc.

It is possible that Alienware have customised their installation media and once you use their discs you might find that features that aren't currently working will start.

However it might be easier to make contact with Alienware, explain what features aren't working and see if there are any drivers you can install to fix the issues.

i tried sending an email to them as guy whose going to have a sort out with it for me suggested but they never came back.(which does not inspire confidence in buying a new pc from them if thats the way they treat customers or 2nd users?) as i dont have password for account. i do have orig receipt and folder with paperwork/discs for everything onit.

Main thing i wanted to know what difference their was as if instead of reloading all i could download/install items it needs ie alien FX or would i be better to just reinstall original discs and do updates etc?
may'be someone whose familiar with alienware machines knows their protocol?
Cheers all

Done a fresh install with discs etc.now all up and running lots of stuff was incorrect and not working properly from previous install using their copy.Someone sent us down FX so got now.Alienware does not support second user? Great so can't ever see me buying a new machine of them.
But PC is super fast now click onit and its their. So happy with it now!
