alienware...who actually owns one

M11x R1 here too.

Currently modded running the CPU at 1.86GHz (TME pinmod 186*6) and GPU at 585/1405/1760 (0.95v volt mod).

Just installed a bargin C300 64GB SSD and now it flies.

Absolutely love the little thing.

Cool was it more than you expected, reason i ask i have an m17x in my basket £1608 and i dont want to regret buying it. Is it true they engrave your name on a base plate? And also are they made in the uk?

Thanks

Made in China of course :p

The engraving on the m11x is generic and the only thing I would say that the CPU is quite weak in some games.

I had a bad experience with Alienware technical support, even though I liked the machine itself, only got sorted out when I began threatening court proceedings/small claims court as they just weren't dealing with things properly and were downright lying at points.

That said this was just after the Dell/AW complete merger so might have had an impact.

What spec do you currently have in your box for that £1608 Chili?

All default except for the screen i opted for the 1080 one aloso opted for the hd 6990 graphics card and the killer wireless card .

If you're not interested in the 'flash' you can get a similar machine much cheaper :)

I just put together:
17.3" 1080P Matte Screen
i7-2720 Quad Core
Radeon 6990M
8BG RAM
500GB HDD
Killer N Network
BD-RW
2 Year Warranty
For £1595.80

As you can can see, similar price, better spec. If you weren't interested in the Matte Screen/BDRW/8GB RAM/Upgraded processor you could knock a couple hundred more off this :)

It'll take longer to arrive, but it's a few hundred cheaper, and would be just as fast. You can also get a 15" model with the same specs at the same cost, slightly lighter too :)

I own the M15x and the M11x. Both pretty awesome, the 11 purely for it's size and capability (though the girlfriend tends to use this one). The 15 I managed to get for a good price, so very happy with my purchase. It was around the time OCUK were bringing out the MSi GX660R laptops, but I managed to get the Alienware for the same price with the same spec. Still plays all my games without any problems. Haven't run into any problems yet, so can't really comment on the Dell service.

As Alex has mentioned if you're not interested in looks and flash of the Alienware range, then the likes of kobalt would be a good alternative.

Have an old one, pre-dell, Aurora mALX 19" beast of a thing, so much so that it was a shock when it arrived and theres no way you could really call it a laptop. Trying to game with it on your lap would end up with serious burns also.

Still runs well though, 4 years on, has 7900gt's in SLI, and still handles games pretty well. Would only consider a new one from the outlet though, and the M11x's do look tempting.

I have yet to pin mod mine. How did you find it?

Notebookreview forums, Alienware M11x section.

I can't remember the title of the thread off the top of my head but I know it has ICS pinmod in it. I will try to find the link when I am at home.

Now I have installed a C300 SSD it flies through Minecraft as well. (Seemed to stutter before but it could be coincidental).

I've found the touchpads on them to be really poor (M11x is better than the 15 though). I tend to use my mouse any time I'm actually on the laptop.

I had their top of the range base unit (x58 PC) 2 yrs ago - it kept on bluescreening. I narrowed it down to the SSD and Mobo. SSD replacement was sent out - I had to send the old one back, and be without the PC (if I installed a new one in the interim period my warranty would be cancelled apparently).

1 week later, my replacement SSD arrived. Problem existed - proven to be Motherboard.

Had to send the entire PC back to Norway I believe (tech support at that time). Took 1 month to return it.

Problem still existed.

Asked for refund, they did not cooperate. Had to pursue a Credit Card refund which took a painful and legal battle of 4 months. In the end I was directed to scrap the PC by the CC company and they refunded me the money in full.
