alienware...who actually owns one

do they hold desktop parts inside like the sager, on that note, where can i find a sager in the uk lol, seen a video on one that had an x58 motherboard inside, are theyre any other makers who do this ? im very interested in a desktop replacement and a desktop processor would be amazing and a deal maker.

Sager are rebranded Clevos, just a case of Sager being the largest reseller in the US, like Eurocom is in Canada...etc etc :)
The model you're think of is the X7200, and yes Kobalt sell it in the UK (as the G970x), and there are a few bigger german sellers too. There used to be a few more resellers in the UK, and I think there might still be another one, but they're smaller. My experience with Kobalt is whilst they're not always the fastest (Kobalt are only a small team themselves), they do seem to care about the outcome :)

Have you still got your kobalt laptops? If so could you please take a pic of the keyboard? I want to know what the UK layout looks like (especially the numberpad area)

i had the m17x R1

T9800 CPU
4Gb Ram
gtx260m
1900x1200 display.

was an excellent laptop but was a bugger to carry around!

I've still got my x8100/g890. There are some pictures of the layout on kobalt's forums but can take a quick picture when I get back after work.

Edit: Actually here's the pic direct from Kobalt. I've just compared it to mine and it looks identical. If you check out thier forums they do have a few threads covering the different models of keyboard :)

ive just ordered the M11xR3 after using a friends and was blown away by how capable it was.

I needed a new laptop and was looking at a MBP 13" but went for this one. I have a 240gb Vertex 2E and 8gb RAM i bought myself rather than pay Dell silly prices.

i went for the i7 with the 2gb card.

Its still in production i want it already :(

I've just ordered an M17x R3 from the Dell outlet. It seemed like a bargain:

i7-2720QM 2.2GHz
8GB RAM
256GB "Ultra performance" SSD
2GB Radeon 6970M
Bluray drive
17.3" WideFHD (1920 x 1080) WLED LCD
Intel Wireless LAN 6300
Win7 Ultimate 64 bit

Total cost was £1350 compared to £2k+ buying new.

When i looked at the outlet ones they did not specify what graphic card was in them, and none had the 1080p screen.
Nice buy

It's the first R3 I have seen on the outlet, all the others have been the previous model and they still seem to be more expensive than mine.

Notebookreview forums, Alienware M11x section.

I can't remember the title of the thread off the top of my head but I know it has ICS pinmod in it. I will try to find the link when I am at home.

Now I have installed a C300 SSD it flies through Minecraft as well. (Seemed to stutter before but it could be coincidental).

How did you find it, as in, how easy was it? :D

Any advice on which soldering tip to use?

Cheers! ;)

Got my M11x R3 today.

Put in the 8gb DDR3 1333 and my 240gb Vertex 2E and use the restore disk to re-install windows.

Runs WOW on hight settings at over 50 fps.
Deus Ex Human Revolution in DX11 with medium settings is also perfectly playable.
Bad Company 2 also ran fine at medium settings.
Dead island on low settings doesn't run well for me which is annoying as its one of the games im playing a fair bit of atm.

My screen is glossy and i can sometimes have a problem with viewing angles and dark images or dark games (dead island indoors) brighter games seem fine.

My only major gripe about it so far is the fan noise. As soon as i load up any game the fan is very loud it doesn't seem to have any sort of speed settings its on mega loud or not at all.

Only got it today so sure will have some more opinions as time goes on.

As a replacement to my old Dell D630 im very happy with the SSD its faster than a greased ferret for non gaming use.

Same specs as the one I just ordered, except mine doesn't have the SSD, only 320 GB HDD and W7 HP 64, but also mine was only £1,007 delivered :D

Yes, as I said on the Outlet thread, I was a bit miffed when I saw all the R3s that turned up at much cheaper prices. There was one with a GTX 580M and i7-2820QM for only £1169, must have cost a fortune new.

Anyway I've decided I don't really need an Alienware laptop since I don't play games a lot and I've emailed Dell to cancel the order. Next time I must remember not to buy things on the Internet at 3am after a few beers :)

im very happy with mine.

50+ FPS in dragon age 2 and Deus Ex DX11 medium settings.

I have a slight problem with the optimus switching with dead island that or its very poorly optimized but only that so far.
