AS above laptop is alienware with win7 all running sweet i was rather reluctant to install windows 10 so i stole a 2.5" drive out of my wifes old laptop and used this for testing.
Took my ssd out of laptop and threw this drive in, installed win7 then installed windows 10 from a usb stick with iso from a thread on this site roughly 40 minutes later it was all installed and running fine, drivers were downloaded via windows and i was pleased my graphic card was detected and correctly installed drivers for it. Only thing i have not got running yet is the alienware function keys because i have not installed any dell stuff yet.

Anyway my question is this :- I have certain stuff on my ssd drive that i really do not want to have to reinstall so if i do the windows 10 install on my drive will my existing game, files etc be preserved or will i loose everything during the installation process of windows 10?

if you are doing a upgrade from W7 to W10 you should not loose anything.

I went from W7 to W10 upgrade and didn't loose anything but then done a clean install after of W10

Mmmm so i wonder how clean of an install the upgrade will be? any reason why you done an upgrade then a clean install?

I let windows upgrade itself and my m18x works fine including the Alienware software.

Cool, however in my case dell have stated that the m17x r3 2011 machines will not be fully supported, on my test disk i have ran into problems already with my killer network card and also excel. I also find the whole experience slower and not as smooth so i guess i will wait a couple of months to allow for glitches etc to be ironed out.
