Hello I am going to take everything out of my Alienware X51 and putting it in a new case.

The case is the Fractal Design R4.

I am also adding a 750w psu which is the: XFX Pro Black Edition 750W Full Modular Power Supply.

I am also adding a 780ti.

Can anyone tell me if this is ok, I just need to be sure what I am getting for the upgrade.
Thanks in advance.:)

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Edit: Just seen the reply below!!!

The X51 uses an M-ITX motherboard which has a unique PSU configuration and a PCI-E riser to hold the GPU in parallel to the motherboard so you'll have a lot of redundant parts left over.

I would personally sell the X51 as a complete system and start again inside your new case. The M-ITX system based around an old Dell Alienware motherboard might look a little strange in a full size case.

Unless your system is an Area 51 rather than an X51?

acme15, I searched the that same and it does seem like the motherboard is a special!

I thought that was the bigger version

Sorry RJC, I edited my post before I saw your reply and it has thrown your post slightly out of context! :p

I think it is a standard M-ITX motherboard and the circuitry to the side actually makes up the power supply. The GPU is held parallel to the motherboard with a PCI-E riser card.

So there will be some redundant parts but the motherboard, CPU, RAM and CPU cooler should be transferable.

Picture of the board in a less confusing setting: http://i01.i.aliimg.com/img/pb/632/684/453/453684632_219.jpg

I think its the same if you look closely, there is a separation between the two circuit boards. I think some of it is to do with the PSU etc. You can see the various power connectors coming off of it. (everything is internal with the X51 I believe, and it's too small to fit a regular PSU)

*edit* no wait, there is a power brick as well, but certainly some of the PSU is internal. :)

Thank you for replying, I have took what you have recommended into consideration but I simply cannot sell the alienware x51 because I have missing and upgraded parts. I am most likely going to be doing what I thought of because I have no other options really. Thanks again. :D

Damn, Dell do like to come up with some weird things. Well, if anyone knows what he's doing it's Tom/acme :p

I'll take that as a big fat sloppy compliment, though there are plenty of people on these forums who know better than I do. :p
