Hey..

I'm unsure what to upgrade, i mainly play WoW (plus afew other games) on 1920x1080reso as its my monitors native resolution. And over the last week or so i have noticed a big dip in performance, moreso on WoW.. prolly due to the patch ready for MoP, so im thinking more towards better performance for when MoP comes, aswell as in other games.

Atm my specs are [Nothing Overclocked]:
Pentium Dual-Core E6500 Core 2 (2.93Ghz)
Gigabyte-G41M-Combo Mobo
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 Dual Channel
WDC 500GB SATA HDD
OCZ StealthXStream 2 500W PSU
Sparkle GTS450 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E Card
DVD/RW SATA drive

Im thinking to upgrade the CPU+MOBO as i think my ram is sufficient enough for the time been. Ive been looking at:
AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4100 Black Edition 3.60Ghz £83.99 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-314-AM&groupid=701&catid=1967&subcat=1942
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P 760G (Socket AM3+) DDR3 MicroATX Motherboard £38.99 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-379-GI&groupid=701&catid=1903&subcat=1481
Asus M5A78L-M LX AMD 760G (Socket AM3+) DDR3 MicroATX Motherboard £38.99 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-485-AS&groupid=701&catid=1903&subcat=1481

Or to upgrade the GFX card:
OcUK GeForce GTX 560 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-156-OK&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1341
or one of the GTX650 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=1914&subid=2392 - just i dont know how these compare performance wise to a GTX 560.

As you can see money is tight, so im wondering which would be the best performance wise for me to replace, either the CPU+MOBO or GFX card (can't afford all 3 atm).

Any advice, input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, bearing in mind around similar prices of stuff that i have shown.

Cheers.

I would suggest that you avoid the AMD socket and look to upgrade the GPU instead.

Something like THIS would be ideal. You can use idlemans link to compare the 7850 to the 560. Please note the 7850 I suggested has 2GB of VRAM, don't be tempted by cards with 1GB of VRAM it's false economy. The 560 isn't great, the 560Ti was the favoured card but times have changed.

The 7850 overclocks well, if you don't have an aftermarket heatsink for your CPU that would be my next upgrade suggestion so you can overclock that too. You don't have to spend a lot £25ish will get you a good cooler that covers a number of sockets

AS honosuseri has said the graphics card will give you the best performance boost and the 7850 is a cracking deal with the free games.

Nice choice m8

I'd be thinking about a completely new system.

You need GPU.
You prolly need PSU too.

You need CPU.
And therefore MOBO too.
And why not RAM.

Then you want a good case to take care of your new stuff.
Plus a new windows installation.
So maybe an SSD.

Thanks fella :)

I know it's a little more than he would like to spend. He could consider selling the games off to recoup some cash if he really wanted to.

hey guys

@honosuseri: Cheers for the helpful reply. Been looking at the HIS HD 7850 IceQ X 2048MB you linked, and i think im gonna go with that upgrade for the moment as you and mickyflinn recommended. My PSU is good enough for this card though?

@billysiela: Im just looking for a quick performance boost for the time been as money is tight, i can start to replace other stuff when i can afford it, just at this moment in time it seems the GFX card upgrade is the best choice.

Your PSU is fine. Personally I think I'd get the MSI Frozer 3 7850. Its a little more money but has a 3 year warranty, twin fan cooler and its clocked faster out of the box than the HIS card. Both should over clock well though.

Hey, i went with [HIS HD 7850 IceQ X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H785QN2G2M) w/ Nexuiz, Sleeping Dogs & Dirt Showdown PC Games], i was pushing the boat out to afford this, i really couldnt afford the MSI one.

Really, many thanks for the help all :D
