Thats pretty much bang on budget.

Now will this work well? work at all? lol

anything better out there for the money?

help me please :D

Think you can get away with a lot less. A decent P35 based mobo is probably just as good with a PC6400 cas4 4Gb kit unless you're after maximum possible overclock.

Also for the price of that 3870XT the 8800GT can be had for £35 less even a Decent BFG OC one is cheaper and performs better, well in games anyway not sure how they run in professional 3D rendering apps.

Also there is a big debate of going for E8400 vs Q6600 but if those apps you use don't utitise quad core then stick to E8400.

I'd say you're overspending there by a big margin. As above go for a P35 mobo, PC6400 RAM (if your friend is asking you, I take it he's not a big overclocker ;)) and I'd have a BFG 8800GT (with a nice warranty):

Looking good to me guys. Any more takers? Are the nvidia 8800GT's really the card to go for? :)

Whats the differnce between these chipsets? :)

Thanks again

I suggested the BFG card simply for its warranty as I believe OCUK one only has 1 year (mind you my friends 800XT is still going after almost 4 years, did get RMAed once though). I guess after 3 cards went on me in the last year alone I pay a bit more attention to the warranty that manufacturers offer.
