I am playouing through ME2 now for some achievements, and will carry the character over to 3 for a couple more.

Once that is done, I will go back to 1 and attempt insanity, carrying over to 2 and 3 as well. I really have been hammering this game in the past few weeks lol.

So any advice? I have a Bastion/Adept I could start a newgame+ with, and an engineer. But I dont mind blasting through again if something else is better. Hammering Barrier to keep me alive and crowd control may be my best option though. At least in 1. In 2 are biotics as powerfull? 3 obviously they are, 2 biotic powers is basically a free OP grenade.

I was an infiltrator in 2 and I can't quite remember about 3 but I think I was the same for my insanity playthroughs. Only things I can really suggest is make sure to equip the correct ammo for shields/armour/barriers to get the enemy health down as quick as possible. I also usually brought team mates who had biotic powers with different effects, so I could tell one to warp an enemies barrier, I could use inferno blast or whatever it's called on armour and the other teammate could use Overload on shields. Staying in cover is your only option, you will be destroyed pretty instantly for most parts if you try and run and gun. Just be patient and charge your shields before popping out of cover. Use biotics when you can as you don't have to precisely aim so you are exposed for less time, plus it saves ammo.

ME2 wasn't as hard as 3 I found, 3 had lots if frustrating bits where I just died over and over again, but stick with it and you will eventually get through them. Prepare to rage at the very end of 3 though :p

Never tried on anything other than the standard difficulty, must look into that :p

For me I always used Vanguard in ME1 but only after finishing it first as a soldier so that a new Vanguard (might be new game+!) can use the assault rifle - epic combat/biotics :D

Also if you do some of your character speccing/1st playthrough before you start you could also consider doing this for Extra Life :D

I am gonna go with Adept, least for ME1. The constant barrier must be a massive help.

I'm tempted to fire up Mass Effect 1 on the projector tonight... Still havent played 2 or 3!!! So it would kick me up the backside. I can imagine you can pick up 2 for pennies now

Im just about to start the first one, i havent played any of them. Any tips on what class i should go? I've heard vanguard are pretty dam good.

It depends how quick you are to understand the game and it's mechanics I'd say.

If you're happy just doing the old fashioned point and click shooter stick with soldier. If you fancy playing with the biotics then Adept/Vanguard is a good place to start.

Bastion/Adept for Mass Effect 1 is definitely the best choice just because of being able to spam barrier and the crowd control you get with Singularity, Throw and Lift. Warp is also fantastic against enemies that spam Immunity such as Krogan, since it will make them 80% more vulnerable to damage, which will pretty much cancels out their Immunity power.

Biotics in Mass Effect 2 were made pretty much pointless on higher difficulties just because half the powers won't even work until you strip away their protection (armor, shields and barriers) and on Insanity every single enemy in the game has protection.

Both games are ridiculously easy on Insanity if you've got the right set up/squad mates (with the exception of 3 sections on Mass Effect 2 where you'll be pulling your hair out ;)).

Do you have all the bonus talents unlocked for ME1? With it to balance out any class' weakness, I find they're all fairly good choices (though a biotic power without an amp is always a bit of a waste).

The unlimited Unity (squad revive) in the first game always made me tend to prefer sitting back and letting my team take the fire. I think my last run was a Sentinel with a Sniper Rifle bonus. Good fun.

I do. I am going to go with Newgame+ on my Adept/Bastion, he has Assault rifles as his bonus.

Cool, well i'd still like to shoot stuff but i'd like a few different perks. Are these guys vanguard...looks pretty cool.

I really am lost with it all, never realised how deep the game is. A lot of reading ahead of me i guess.

Adepts are mainly debuff and crowd control (which will only make sense if you already an RPG player).

Vanguards are pure damage dealers, even their biotic powers are geared up for it. It will be a little harder to play to begin with if your normally a FPS player but they hit a LOT harder when you get to grips on what powers to use and when.

Hmmm....thinking i should just go with Soldier then, i do like shooting stuff. What was that power that guy was using to chuck enemies up in the air?

Both lift and shockwave (depending on upgrades) will do that, there biotic powers. Singularity, again a biotic power, will lift them and hold them there a few seconds.

Don't read, just play :D

The Vanguard plays pretty differently in ME2/3 though - better in some regards but be prepared for putting yourself in the middle of tough combat at times :p

Soldier isn't a bad choice when you're new to the series (it was my first class too). The only thing I'd advise is not to level up every gun skill, there's just no need. There's no ammo limit in ME1, so you'll never really need to change gun unless it's a range issue.

Oh, and you'll want to take a squad member with decryption and electronics everywhere with you. :)

Immunity>Barrier every time. On insanity with immunity up I could still take hits from a colossus, 80% damage reduction ontop of armor reduction is insane.

Not only that Barrier doesnt help with certain enemies that like to get close, immunity will always save your ass.

Trusty, bare in mind the strongest weapon class in the first game is the pistol(with marksman up, but its got such a short cooldown), so like Weebul said, maybe stick to pistol and one other(preferably shotgun or sniper, ARs are too similar). If its your first playthrough feel free to ignore my advice and play however you like though. Also the classes in ME2 play nothing like the classes in ME1, so don't get your hopes up about zooming all over the place with a biotic shield, its overrated anyway :D

Oh hai!
*few rounds from my sniper rifle*
Biotic charge to the face.
Nova smash.
Energy drain the nearest enemy with shield/barrier.
Rinse, lather, repeat.

Setting up chain combos with Javik's Dark Channel was most fun :D
