Ok! So I've built my PC, specs will be below, but now it fails to boot. I've plugged it into the mains, turned on the switch on the PSU, and pressed the power button on case, but the only response I get is a yellow light on my motherboard. I read the manual, and it says that the light means overvoltage?

I've checked all connections, but need more advice. I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Specs:
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard
OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W Modular Silent SLI/Crossfire Ready ATX2.2 Power Supply
Zalman Z7-PLUS Gaming Mid-Tower Chassis
Sony AD-5240S-0B 24x Internal DVD±R/RW Drive - Black
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 PRO Rev.2 (Socket 1366/1156/775/AM2)
Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) Processor - Retail
Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel Kit
XFX ATI Radeon HD 5830 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Samsung HD103SJ SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 3.5" Hard Drive

Normal checks in this kind of situation:

- make 100% sure motherboard and graphics card have the correct connectors (24 pin, 4 pin, 6/8 pin PCIE etc)
- clear CMOS/remove CMOS battery
- try RAM sticks 1 at a time in different slots
- disconnect all the optical/hdds and try to boot like this

Is it really all plugged in properly?

If you're getting nothing at all then it sounds like the motherboard is incorrectly connected.

You should go back to basics, motherboard CPU and memory and see if you get any response (Bios beeps). Maybe then add the video card and see if you get a picture.

Andi.

hmm You did connect the case headers to the right bits of the motherboard?

Does the yellow light come on as soon as you switch on the power, or when you press the power button on the front?

The Graphics card has two 6 pin connectors in it, as it is in the Radeon manual, the motherboard has the 24 pin connector next to the RAM and the 4 pin connector for the CPU, next to that. I've cleared CMOS, unplugged DVD drive and hard drive...

I'll go back to basics and try that...

A short within the case, you used risers for the motherboard mounting?

Might be best to test out of the case, on the desk, just mobo procesoore, correctly palced heatsink and the ram, it should output

Is the PSU cable of adding an 8 pin header in addition to the 4 pin on the mobo? 2*4pin sometimes?
Unsure of that exact mobo, but most i7 were 8 pin secondray power connections not 4, if you removed a 4 pin blanker?

Found the problem! It was how I'd connected some case fans. I'd used a power cable from the PSU to plug into the 4 pin connectors and then connected it to sys_fan2 on the motherboard...

Now I need to know how to connect these case fans correctly. Thanks for the help, gentlemen!
