Hi there all, I am about to order the parts for a new rig, I've just about decided on everything that I want except the RAM.

I have been waiting for the Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit to come back in to stock, but it has been ages now since it was last in stock, so I will have to go for something else.

I don't know whether I should go for Corsair, G-Skill or OCZ. Or should I wait for the Crucial memory to come back into stock.
I only want the PC2-6400C4 type memory (2GB).

What do you guys suggest is the best brand memory to go for. My processor will be the Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz, running on an ASUS P5B Duluxe, but I will be overclocking it to 3GB with the Artic Cooling Freezer 7.

Thanks in advance.

They should easily match the 6400C4 and for cheaper. In fact they apparently use exactly the same chips. And they overclock like crazy. I'm up to 1000Mhz 5-4-4-15 at the moment - stock voltage and haven't bothered tightening those timings yet. From what I hear they should do 1000 @ 4-4-4-12 (Still getting the CPU overclock right though for now ;) )

and what about me?

Sorry first post here.

I've taken the plunge and I've decided to upgrade, but I don't know much about memory anymore so I need some advice. This was what I was considering (any comments would be welcome) -

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi Intel P35
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS KO ACS3 SILENT 640MB GDDR3
Corsair HX 520W

I'll be running XP for awhile, alongside linux (if i get round to it) before maybe moving over vista so i'm prepared to go up to 4gb at the moment and take the hit on the loss of the 1gb.

Would you still recommend the Crucial Ballistix 2GB?

I'm afraid the last time I did any real overclocking was about 9years ago, so I'd rather leave that for another day after I've researched it enough.

Cheers..

If you have no plans on overclocking have a look at GeIL instead.
