All I want for Christmas is...........

A decent WW2 fps with a great single player story mode (min 60 hours) and decent multiplayer with different game modes, kind of like rush (on dday), air superiority (battle of britan, huge scale bomb runs), CTF (think market garden, bastogne), huge scale tank battles. Stalingrad, egypt, italy, asia et al.

No flashey gadgets, no toys, but tanks, planes, subs, warships and guns.

Not made by EA/Dice, not bloated with pay2win, no dlc, be able to chose which theatre of the war you want to play in, in what role. All the different forces and respective equipment.

Think that about covers all my salient points, loads I have not included though.

what happened to that stupidly huge ww2 mmo? how come it never got remade with better graphics

I think the map was the whole of Europe

Wholeheartedly agree. I got an Asus transformerbook recently and it runs bf42 very well indeed (on a tablet??). Reminds me of the sweet spot dice hit with that game. Projectile drop off, accurate hit detection, awesome sound, great maps. Bit dated now but still a great experience that to my eyes has not been matched in any following iterations. Still plenty of servers up too!

a BF1942 remake anyone agree?

See the problem is that if DICE remake the game it will have:

- Weird colour grading
- Dino masks
- Millions of gadgets
- Lots of ways to be supressed and have random deviation, weapon sway
- Lower TTK
- Unbalanced maps
- Lack of Imagination corridor maps
- Battlepacks
- Useless Kill cam
- Hit registration that drives you up the wall
- Hackers that take advantage of Game Time
- Classic maps that will be ruined by levolution and other silly map designs that no longer make the maps classic

I really liked the artillery/spotting system in BF1942, it took teamwork and some effort for it to be effective. Then BF2 came along and replaced it with......point and click.

this man speaks a lot of sense, I for one get moist at the thought of such a historical accurate game.

bf1942 was pretty much a different team.

dice took over and the series went down hill with every release

In January 2000, the company bought Refraction Games and 90% of Synergenix Interactive. This was followed in March 2001 by the acquisition of Sandbox Studios in London, Ontario, Canada.

now what game did refraction games make.

now what does the mp of this game look like?

they are the true heroes behind 1942

what engine did 1942 use
Engine Refractor Engine

as soon as dice bought them out and made their own crappy engine the series went to crap

Red Orchestra is what you all need.

Its a shame it never took off, such a good game, but then i would be happy with remake of RTCW with better graphics, which is utterly ironic as people put everything to minimum settings anyway.

Config tweeking should be banned in all games multiplayer apart from FOV and Bloom :)

Was just about to say exactly the same thing, what it lacks in scale it makes up for in gameplay design, and the maps are still pretty big anyway!

Well worth a shot for anyone interested, especially with rising storm addon too
