I hear mixed things about distilled water + corrosion + bio-inhibitors going out of fashion.

I try to run a fairly low maintenance system, but it's probably about time I changed the fluid. Is there a 'gold-standard' all in one clear fluid?

If you're using clear
Not sure you need to change it
From a biocide point of view at least
I have some used coolant
Kept it out of interest
It's been sitting in that bottle for about 10 years now
Nothings ever grown in it

Only issues I have ever had
Have been with coloured coolant
And micro fin clogging

I tend to change it every 2 years or so(X1 clear). Some radiators tend to make the clear go to a light tint(Mostly seen in HWLabs Rads).

Been using mayhems x1 green for a good few years and have had no issues, in combination with zmt tubes mantanance is just over the year mark, good stable fluid and temps on components are pretty good.

I might be one of the few who just uses Halfords Battery top up water for the past 10 years without issues. Longest stretch i've had with no maintenance on the same Halfords stuff is 6 years and it looked exactly the same. Ideally i should use Distilled water for a higher purity but it's really all down to the prep work for how long it lasts especially if you plan on not using biocides or inhibitors.

I have even used the water
From my condenser tumble dryer
When I had nothing else available

Distilled water and de-ionised water you would think
Was all the same
But apparently there's different levels of it
But if you just do the basic purifying to it
You can still call it Distilled or de-ionised
Even though it wouldn't be as pure as laboratory grade stuff

thats mad.

ive only ever use the shop stuff.
i one used ironing water from asda, its just filtered to stop lime build up and 2.5l was like £1.80

Thats wild lol, never gone that far before .

Yeah Distilled and Deionised is not the same. Distilled has a higher purity than deionised.

I tend to stick with stuff i know works, no point buying expensive stuff for the same outcome if i know the halfords stuff works just fine.

Just this past week I've changed out the EK Cryofuel that's been in my system for 4 and a half years. Abolutely nothing wrong with it still. Drained the system just over a year ago to change CPU, I cleaned out the CPU block at the same time but it wasn't bad at all. Just upgraded GPU so put a fresh bottle of the stuff in now, should be good for a fair few more years to come.
