I'm moving a disabled person into a house and he's never had HD before so I thought it'd be nice if I could find a box which is capable of playing all the current file formats and is easy to use, USB pen input would be required as he won't have a computer or the internet for a good while.

My budget is around £50 but I can stretch a bit further for something special, all we really need is HDMI and stereo phono output, 5.1 output would be cool though.

Thanks in advance :)

You want it so he can watch HD movies off the usb drive I take it?

If so then a Raspberry Pi with xbmc can do this just fine for under £50.

if he is planning on getting a PC in future, kill 2 birds with one stone and just get a net top or one of those small pc's which is the same size as a couple of blu rays strapped together. or a laptop with hdmi out.

will cost you £200-£300 but it will do anything and everything.
