hi , i recently bought a hiper 530w all mesh psu. since then the top of my case is heating up really bad. could this be due to the all mesh casing.

I'd think so, if I remember it right it has a 12cm fan at the bottom, I've seen another thread somewhere with the same PSU and same problem. I'd try to cover the sides of the PSU to force the hot air to expel to the rear.

Surely that defeats the whole object of a mesh PSU, I'd agree it is probably the best solution but how could Hiper be so dumb as to think it a good idea, venting the heat out of the case is well accepted practice, simply because it works.

It's more of a marketing gimmick. Heat needs to be directed out of the case, not dissipate inside the case. Plus, the hiper units are inefficient, so more heat will be generated compare at the same wattage compare to something like a Seasonic, Corsair or Enermax.

thanks for your help, im thinking of dumping it and getting an ocz one. could you advise me on the wattage i need please.

p4 550 3.4 ( upgrading to core 2 duo e6400)
2 gb kingston hyper x pc 5400 ram
msi 7900 gto
250 hdd
gigabyte s3 mobo

thanks again

ps id like some headroom for upgrading or adding more components in future.

Yes OCZ makes very good PSU, especially the gamers extreme series. It is a lot cheaper now. I'd say the gamers extreme 600W should do it just fine.

OCZ GameXStreams are exactly same as the FSP Epsilon series, but with a different case and LED fan. OCZ's have longer warranty and a bit cheaper. FSP has good local UK support/RMA.
