I read that he was very impressed with the GP12 machine when he tested it so fingers crossed this all new bike will help him get round the track a bit faster!!!
:D

Or a calculated and smart decision to get better data on the GP12 chassis ? ;)

This, although I'll add cheeky to the mix :p

There's no way Ducati/Rossi are going to win the championship this year, it's either Stoner or Lorenzos, so there's no real risk of trying something completely new and it means they'll either get some better results as well as some data for the GP12 bike, or they realise it doesn't work and get to change their GP12 bike before the start of the season...

So worst case is quite good, and just think what'll happen if it makes a good step forward and Rossi wins a couple, Rossi's reputation goes through the roof in terms of developing the bike and Ducati look good as well for making the changes requested by Rossi.

So win-win really, they'd be mad not to imo.

Current bike is showing just how good Stoner was to be honest. Looking forward to Rossi being competitive again though as MotoGP has been awful this year - its the first season I can remember when F1 was more entertaining!

You could argue though that maybe the bikes always been a bit pants and 2007 was a good year for Stacey though, iirc 2008/9/10 he wasn't really up there in the championship as such...
:)

Most likely...although it has to be said as well that Rossi would carry a lot of clout and if he wants an all new bike, he'd be the only Duke rider ever to stand a chance of getting what he wants...
:)

I hope it works for him. Next year Rossi will get the championship i think as the engines are getting bigger and he already has experience racing them, which should help. Also, with all the data they now have the 2012 bike really will be catered around him, rather than just modifying Casey's bike to Vale.

He still had plenty of wins in those years though, and loads of podiums.

Quite a few wins, but also quite a few dnf's as well i think?
:)

2008 2nd in championship almost 100 points behind the winner
2009 4th in the championship almost 100 points behind the winner
2010 4th in the championship almost 160 points behind the winner

Win it or bin it - thats what I like about him :)

Stoners last 6 race placings on the Ducati:

1 1 x 1 x 2

Valentinos first 6:

7 5 5 3 5 6
