So i bought the game. Then before i get round to playing it the game shuts down. I think its past its return date to the shop. Is it worth:

a) trying to return it
b) wait and see if someone buys it
c) get on with life

Well the servers shut down a few weeks ago, so it may be option C as shops won't have known about it shutting down when they sold you the product.

I think a few people managed to get game vouchers out of it, so you may have to wait for one of them to advise you.

I bought mine from steam and managed to get a free game from EA as compensation from their site. I used live chat to sort it on ea site but if you bought it from shop im guessing u can get refund

What the hell? Was the game such a failure that they shut down the servers? I bought it, played it for 5 minutes, realised it was unbearably and horrificly cack that i uninstalled it and almost incinerated my HDD for being infected with such dross. Whats this about a free game though?

yeah the game was an epic fail, ended before it even started, its silly to think they are still selling these in stores though, they should all be taken off the shelves for christ sake

The game is on!

TRISTAN: Hi, my name is TRISTAN. How may I help you?
: Hi there
: I would just like to ask something please
TRISTAN: Yes may i know your issue please ?
: I pre-ordered APB off Steam and have since discovered that the game no longer works?
: Sorry, my internet connection is really poor at this time of night
TRISTAN: Unfortunately as per EA current policy we are not providing any kind of compensation for third party purchase of game.
TRISTAN: So in this matter you have to contact your retailer for further assistance
: I've spent the best part of an hour just talking to Steam regarding this issue
TRISTAN: I can understand your problem but i would like to inform you that EA has no relationship with the digital channel steam. Our distribution of APB was limited to specific digital partners. You purchased your game from a retailer that has no relationship with EA for APB. EA has no obligation to provide compensation of any kind. However, if you feel you are entitled to a refund or other entitlement based on the terms and circumstances of your specific purchase, we suggest that you contact steam retailer and/or your credit card company to determine if a refund, chargeback and/or other relief is available.
: I've been sent here to discuss with yourselves about this?
TRISTAN: I can understand but as per EA current policy we unable to assist those player who has purchased the game for third party retailer like steam, apb etc..
TRISTAN: So i am unable to help you in this matter
: Isn't EA the publisher of the game though?
TRISTAN: Yes EA is the publisher but steam is not the digital partner of EA that's why we are not assisting those player's who had purchHello,
TRISTAN: Thank you for writing to Electronic Arts customer support.
TRISTAN: I would like to inform you that the game is release on 1st June, 10 AM PST. I hope you already downloaded the game and enjoying it. If the game is not downloaded then please provide us the order number. Happy playing. ^^
TRISTAN: If there is anything else we can help you with please let us know.
TRISTAN: Thank you,
TRISTAN: Mark
TRISTAN: Sorry typo error
TRISTAN: Yes EA is the publisher but steam is not the digital partner of EA that's why we are not assisting those player's who had purchased the game form third party like APB, steam, game stop etc..
: I'm sorry but i really don't understand?
TRISTAN: I mean EA has no relationship with the digital channel steam that's why we are unable to help you in this matter.
: I apologize for this by the way :)
: May i ask how many other Steam users have received compensation for the same issue?
: I have discussed with Steam who have said to contact the publisher (EA) regarding compensation
TRISTAN: I would like to inform you that as per EA current policy we are not providing any kind of computation anymore for third party purchase
: I do understand what you're saying about your policies, but i have friends and people i used to play APB with receiving compensation as recently as Friday Evening
: I do appreciate your time in this matter as well. I can imagine you have a few people with the same complaint
TRISTAN: Yes
TRISTAN: If you have any other issue apart from this then please feel free to let me know. I will do my best to help you.
: Like i said before, i have friends and people i used to play APB with all receiving some form of compensation as recently as Friday?
: I'm sorry to harp on about the same thing
TRISTAN: But the policy has been changed form Friday
TRISTAN: Now we are not providing any compensation any more for APB purchase
: So the policy has been changed since my friend received compensation at 2:00am?
TRISTAN: Ye s
TRISTAN: Yes *
: Is there a weblink to this policy? I'd imagine something like a statement would be posted on the EA site?

To be fair EA was just a publishing partner and RTW said "stick it in a box for us". Sure steam should be nice and do the same and offer a refund as they are publishing partner as well. As for asking EA for a refund of a steam copy, it would be like asking tesco for a refund on a copy brought in GAME almost.

Also wasn't there a time limit on the free game thing ?

APB will rise from the depths - mark my words!

Yes it had it's flaws, but to those who loved it - it was special.

My immediate attention turns to ActionDistrict :D

Agreed.

The last update was fantastic and does make you wonder "what could have been" were it simply given more time.

Ultimately, they ran out of cash and had to release early and this combined with some poor design choices at the start (then realising later on) was its downfall.

brb buying ABP without knowing the servers shut down.
