All prices up by 20% from ****.com

A few years ago i might have been annoyed at this but i stopped using that site when internet speeds started getting better as it's just as cheap and sometimes cheaper just to buy a CD key and download these days.

Ho hum, I don't see how this will bring in a *lot* more revenue, people will just buy less (or look for cheap offers from digital content providers).

:mad:Every single price set by a certain channel-islands based seller (that lots of people buy their PC games from) is going to go up by 20%, forever, thanks to the government :(

Oh well :( I used to kinda *love* the price they managed to achieve as well :(

It only applied to items under £15 anyway so new pc games will not be affected.

I'm confused by this.

Isn't it just that the qualifying price is dropping from £18 to £15? Meaning everything £15 or below is still VAT exempt?

The thing is there are many UK based stores who have had to compete on price with the Jersey based outfits anyway. So unless they all jump their prices (in which case I imagine a cry from consumers that a cartel is in operation) I don't see the consumer being affected unless you religiously stick to one seller.

so basically the new legislation only counts for the channel islands.

whats the betting these companies setup in another tax friendly environment just outside the EU.

"Costing £140m a year"

I don't like them using that words, it isn't COSTING them anything at all, it's just money they aren't gaining from it, they're not effectively paying out money so there is no cost. Stupid terminology.

Good. I hope they move back to the mainland, the last few boxed games I bought came from Jersey and the delivery times are horrendous.

That ****** me off too.

Play are rubbish nowadays anyway, took over a week for my last 2 deliveries. I find Amazon a lot more prompt.

Good point bios.

But as per others, I haven't used play in ages just because the price is usually matched elsewhere + steam sales etc..

Used them once only as I had heard of and experienced bad delivery from them when I did use em, something dodgey going on there! My item said dispatched shortly after ordering but had still not arrived 1 week later and was told I had to wait 1 month to register for a refund, item turned up after 2 weeks ffs! A few others I know have had the same issue.

There are a few others at it as well. Eg, that other internet retailer with the name of a south american forest has the same issue for their cheaper stuff.

There's plenty cheaper out there anyway .... specially when they are all VAT free :D

What are you smoking?

For years they've taken advantage of a loop hole that meant they sapped business away from legitimate, and more often than not smaller competitors!
