All software showing negative temps on 4 of the 8 cores (Ryzen 2700X)

Asking for my friend. He has just contacted me to say 4 of his 8 CPU cores are showing up as -10 degrees, while 4 are correct at 34 degrees. The negative 10 ones stay at that regardless of usage. I suggested perhaps making sure all sockets were connected the right way around on the motherboard. But I am no expert and not encountered this issue before, so wondered what could be the reason ? He is using watercooling, and we have both looked online and can't find a solution. All cores work okay as they show 100% usage in Handbrake. Just the temps that are wrong and only on 4 cores. What sort of things can he try and what actually reads the temps ? The heatsink or is there something embedded in the chip ? He has an ASROCK motherboard, all brand new in last week.

Thanks for any advice.

Thanks all. Firstly yes, he says he has the latest bios, he says his Bios only shows the overall temp and not each core. I have told him to try Hwinfo64 so will await what he says, although I just installed that myself and can't see core temps. Are they there ? I can see core frequencies.

I am not sure about the new gen of Ryzen but my 1st gen shows accurate core temps for each one in the software CPU Temp, so I presume the new gen must too.
