All temp reading programs fail?

I've got an Asus P5KC and E5200 using Vista 64bit.

Every temperature reading program registers a different value (somewhere from 35 to 44), but this number NEVER changes from idle to 20minutes of load. There's no burning smell or excessive heat. The temperature also never changes from stock to overclocked. I'm somewhat puzzled.

My friend has an e5200, his is always stuck at 59*C, it's a stuck temp sensor. Try loading the chip with prime95 or intel burn test, his will shift and report correct temp when it's really hot but will always revert to 59 when the stress is over.

Speedfan seems to be the only program able to report any change. I'm seeing CPU toggle between 35c and 37c, core0 between 44c and 46c and core1 stable at 44c. This is using orthos or prime95.

Is it common for this chip to have a faulty sensor?

Yeah its quite a common problem. Wouldn't worry as it will work correctly when the chip gets hotter. Try Intelburntest as it will put another 10C above prime95 then you would probably see some movement.

Yep. On both my E5200 and my E8500. It moves when it goes over what it's stuck at. Thing is i have only ever got my E8500 to move once. That was when i was priming it to check it's stability at 4.5Ghz. It only went to 42 degrees then. :D The joy of window mounted rads and lovely cold outside air. Funnily enough the DFI Smart Guardian seems to read it's true temp. The E5200 maxxes out at 48 degrees while running prime at 3.6ghz. Normally it's stuck at 34 degrees.
