I've just ditched my x2 3870's in favor of x2 4850's. All benchies would suggest that a 4850 is a lot quicker than a 3870. I'm running vista32 sp1. Got a wolfdale @3.8ghz. Gigabyte X38-DS4, 4gig ram. My 3dmark of 17250is has improved by 400!!! W.T.F.. I've ran 8.6, then the hotfix, uninstalled and installed just the hotfix. I've been kippered !!!
Anybody else in a similar boat ?

3dm06 is not a good indication of GPU performance nowadays, I don't know why people still think it is...?

My 4850 scored only about the same as my 8800GT in 3dm06, but games are a different story.

At least 25% faster in everything, and in some games nearly 100% better.

32bit vista and 4GB of ram? get yourself 64bit or a load of it is sitting there not doing an awful lot. Plus vista is a whole lot faster and smoother in 64bit with 4GB :)

And yeah, no-one really cares about 3dmark, unless you don't play games and run benchmarks all day?

^ pilch is most definitely right. Ditch the Vista 32bit and get yourself Vista 64bit.

Increase PCI-E bandwidth and overclock the CPU more :)

Oh.. and O/C the cards if you can. But honestly.. at the moment it really isn't worthwhile using 3DMark. Maybe Vantage is a bit better but I doubt it :)

Just enjoy the setup with games, as that is where it will shine. Who really cares? (apart from epeen abuses and world record attempters).

thx guys, yeh I've tried some games too.. rFactor is my main one and saw no difference, that's why I posted 3DMark cauz it's more global... Gonna try crysis now..

Ditch 3dmark and play some games . :)
It's a completely irrelevant benchmark now, you've only got to look at the reviews to see where the strengths lie compared to the 38-- series, AA is certainly one of the strengths.

Perhaps it isn't optimised for rFactor just yet? Try selecting a different crossfire mode, or playing with the Catalyst AI settings :)

I presume the OP is actually running an FPS monitoring tool rather than just seeing 'how well they play'? I'm sure steady 40 FPS vs steady 60 FPS is much of a muchness in many games :)

its is not about 3dmark06 its in games were u see differences, wait till new rivatuner get decent cooling on cards and then when u oc them u should much better score

rFactor works fine in crossfire, scales nearlly 100%. Crysis is pants and still pants, no improvement. Thing is I looked at tons of reviews and benchies, including 3Dmark and saw a massive difference between the 3870 and 4850, not just in crossfire, and now I'm not getting nowhere near that performance increase. What gives ??
