All wireless chargers the same?

I have a Google Nexus brand wireless charger that I bought at the same time as my N5 when they were released.
This combination worked fine.
N5 now retired, Galaxy S6 in use. No matter how much positioning on the Nexus wireless charger I do, I just cannot get the S6 to charge from it.

So I need to get hold of something a little newer to be able to charge the S6 wireless?

The Nexus one probably doesn't output enough power to activate the inductive charging coils on the S6. You need something that complies with Qi inductive charging of at least 5W, maybe even 7.5W for the newer phones. 10W is the fastest wireless charging at present, and costs around £15 for one on Amazon.

Note though, the S6 non plus doesn't support fast wireless charging, so you're limited up to 7.5W on the standard model I think. Still, get a fast wireless charger for future proofing.

Not always, it might be rated at that but certainly won't activate the phone. I have a "5W" one at work that works with my Lumia 950, but won't work on the S7 edge because it can't output enough power to induct the S7.

Thanks for the replies.
So if I were shopping on a well known site and I found a fast charger that listed as charging in both standard 5w and quick 10w then I'd be able to use said device with an S6. Should I get a fast charging compatible handset in the future that too should just work OK.
