Allergy Testing - anyone done it?

Probably should have posted this before I went. Anyway I had one on Tuesday and apart from feeling totally conned I thought I would see what others have experienced on here.

After some research I found out that I was tested using the NAET technique (so no bloods). It is based on kinetic energies and electromagnetic pulses that are given out (or not) when an allergen is introduced to the subject. More detail is on Wiki.

So it found out that I am allergic to: yeast, crab, prawn, mixed grasses, cat fur and minor on egg yolk and white.

She gave me the yeast free diet sheet of things to avoid and a bunch of supplements that I could have bought online for a third or half what I paid (I tried to remember what she was suggesting but my pony brain couldn't take it down). Oh well. You live and learn. If she does contact me in 8 weeks I won't be going for a re-test or buying anymore stuff from her and I will be telling her that.

Being allergic - or intolerant to yeast isn't life threatening and most of the foods on the diet sheet I don't eat anyway (thanks to FF as he is my own personal nutritionist :o lol). I think the main thing that we established from this exercise that I need to stay away from shellfish - the main reason for going in the first place.

Tldr The question is: has anyone else done an allergy test and what was your experience? Can anyone recommend a 'proper' testing centre?

Thanks.

Yeah, "kinetic energies" and "electromagnetic pulses" sounds like an ideal way to test for allergies. NOT.

Sounds like a load of tosh, tbh.

Did you have to provide a sample of something for testing, or did they just dance around you like a witch doctor while waving shellfish, beer etc?

Nope no samples, just a questionnaire.

I was expecting to have to give bloods, I should have done a bit more research :(

Am sure this must have been on Watchdog!

That actually sounds worse than the hair sample idiocy loads of "mail-in" places do. Purporting to detect allergies from only a couple of hair samples, you're likely to get two completely different lists of things you're allegedly allergic to if you send in hairs from your own head under two different names.

Nothing is worth the paper it's printed on (or not, in some cases) with regards to allergies unless it's been a) a lab-based blood test or b) spot test taken at a hospital/surgery.

Well thanks for your opinions :p considering that there have been posts about milk intolerance etc today, I would have assumed that these people would have had a test to prove their intolerances.

I doubt she'll call me back for a retest and if she does Ahleckz I'll pass her your number ;) you'd make a great couple!

I had it, they put the allergy drops on my arm and I came back 15 minutes with some good reactions. Mostly to stuff I know thoe.

Cats, Pollen and Dust.

I think you need a second opinion, place your hand against the monitor for 30 seconds while I take your electroradiant biofeedback and I should have a report for you within an hour or so.

That'll be $50 you're welcome :)

Good grief BB, did you also go with your Astrology chart?

It was back in the 80s but when I had allergy tests done they put different drops on your arm and then ***** the skin.
They wait a bit and look for the ones that react.
I was allergic to sheeps wool, dust mite and house dust but my younger sister had a listful including hamster.

Funnily enough I set a laptop up with the software / hardware necessary for this about 8 years ago. The woman I set it up for gave me a free go ;) - and I have never seen such a con in all my life. It involved a jar and a copper ball (which was hooked into the serial port of the laptop )which measured your bodily resistance changes.

Basically it told her I was allergic to about 7 different things.... most of which I come into contact with on a daily basis - and never ever had any problems with - not even a sneeze or sore tummy.

Fact of the matter is, I'm over 40 - and have yet to find anything I am allergic to, or intolerent to - although if I drink a few pints of milk a day, I do tend to get a bit of a skin outbreak after a few weeks of doing it every single day.

Funny thing is - it didn't tell her anything about a milk/lactose intolerance.

So you know it's a con and are still taking the advice to stay away from yeast and shellfish?

Go to a doctor, get confirmation of real allergies. If the results don't match exactly those found by an actual medical professional, go back to said con artist and demand a full refund.

If anyone mentioned the words "kinetic energies" and "electromagnetic pulses" to me during a medical examination I'd get up and walk out with my money still in my pocket.
