Hi.

Got a cheapo Acer Aspire 5315 with Celery 540, 2Gb, 80Gb HDD, Intel integ. gfx.

(The laptop came with 512Mb System RAM, so i swopped the RAM for 2 sticks of Crucial 1Gb....amazing difference!)

Does the Bios- or whatever- auto alter the allocation of system memory to Gfx? The bios currently lists [8Mb] greyed out as Gfx memory.

Well, if its greyed out that would suggest that 8mb gfx memory is a fixed amount available, which given the spec of the laptop, sounds about right.

In my BIOS, also an acer, you can freely select from 64mb to 256mb.

I leave it set to 64mb, as the ATI 1100 Radeon Xpress, although a full DX9 card, is only quick enough to run games upto about 2001/02 era, when 64mb was still a lot, 128mb was just starting to come in then, i think.

Either way, shared gfx memory sucks...its just too S-L-O-W compared to on chip gfx memory.
