Brother has lost the locking nut for his standard A4 (1994) alloys. Audi have quoted him £200inc vat, £25 for new nuts and the rest to take them off as they dont have the same fitment spare for him to buy.

Is there any cheaper way to take them off without damaging the alloys?

Take an old socket that is slightly smaller than the locking wheel nut and hammer it onto the locking nut. It should then undo as normal.

I have not tried this personally, but this is the advice I have seen reccommended before.

I've done the above and it works. I did use an impact socket as they are tougher than normal sockets.

If that fails you can buy a tool that does the job, I think Sealey do one.

worked for me too, think it was a 19mm for mine. Still got the socket with the nut sticking out thought it i may be able to reuse it for the sam purpose but no chance

Put the socket in a vice and use a suitable punch to knock the bolt out (downwards)

Worked for me :)

They are seriously trying to rip him off there. You can buy a professional kit off ebay for this purpose for much less. A hammer and socket works too.

Also you can get reverse threaded sockets for this purpose as well (they dig into it), about a tenner
