I must confess I'm somewhat of a nub when it comes to wheel fittments etc.

I'm looking to replace my current ones and have a few questions if you'd be so kind to answer them.

Firstly, could someone explain what PCD and offset are? I've got a vague idea, but would like it explaining by someone who knows :p

Secondly, my wheels are currently 4 stud. Does that mean I have to fit 4 stud onto them? Or is there something you can do so that you can get 5 studs on?

Finally, how much of an effect does weight actually have? My current wheels are about 7-8kg each, sans rubber. I've been looking at the Oz Leggera's (15x7) which are about 4.9kg each. Would the saving in weight make much of a difference in the overall handling of the car? It currently weighs about 1040kg.

Many thanks

See here for PCD and offset.

You may be able to get hubcentric adaptors to allow fitting of 5 stud wheels, a lot of aftermarket alloys will come in both though.

Fitting lighter wheels should make the car handle a bit better, I don't know the details but its something to do with the fact that once they're spinning the effective weight of them is multiplied I think.

If they don't come in the fitment for your car you would have to source the adaptors yourself, IF they're available.

1. Superleggeras have ceased production, they have been replaced with the Ultraleggera which is avaliable in a larger range of fitments.

2. Why would you want to put 5 stud wheels on your 4 stud car? Both Ultra Leggeras and Superleggeras come in 4 and 5 stud fitment.

3. If the wheels come with the right PCD but the wrong offset, generally OZ will provide a fitting kit which includes a spacer with the price. This is certainly the case with Superleggeras in Pug/Cit fitment, you have to get the Ford fitment ones and a spacer. Ultraleggeras however are direct-fit.

Cheers, all the places I've seen them for sale, appeared only to have 5 stud. But admittedly I was only googling around :)

That will just be the photo, most places will get them from a couple of suppliers which will stock all fitments. You want to get in contact with Motorsport Wheels UK I think its called, they are the direct supplier for OZ wheels and will give you a very good price. However like I said, they don't sell Super Leggeras any more.

I don't think any of the OZ ones other than the Super L and Ultra L are particulary lightweight wheels. I know for a fact the Super Turismo weighs about double that of a Super Leggera.

Perhaps try looking at the Rota range of wheels, They are lightweight, good quality and reasonably priced.

Thanks again mate, I'm still only looking not going to get any till I need rubber anyhow. Of course its much easier to look when I know more about what I'm looking at :p
