Almost bricked a board.

I decided to flash my GA-EP45-DS5 in the hope that they might have a fix for the HDD LED issue I'm having (it doesn't flicker and yes, the lead is plugged into the right pns and is the right way). My boards BIOS was version F5 and they had released up to F10a. They only mentioned one fix in the description but I gathered that there must have been some smaller, less notable fixes also. I used the @BIOS utility; mainly for convenience. It updated but took about 10 minutes, much longer than any other board I've done. I then let it restart and when is ran the POST the error "WARNING! BIOS CHECKSUM ERROR" was displayed. Luckily, it flashed the BIOS from the back-up one.

This is my first Gigabyte board so I don't know what they're like for flashing. I don't think I want to take the risk again unless I can be sure it'll work. Is the @BIOS utility known for being bad or was I just unlucky? There is another method but I think I'll hold of for a while now.

In my experience you were just unlucky, but you could use the alternative 'Q-Flash' method as suggested. If you do use a USB stick or HDD (as opposed to a floppy) it must use the FAT32/16/12 file system not NTFS. If you haven't already, I strongly suggest reading the mobo manual on 'BIOS Update Utilities' and oh yes, the 'Dual BIOS' is useful isn't it.;)

I had the same on my (jsut about to be replaced) mobo Dual-Vsta.

The bad checksum warning flashed then it rebooted.

For some reason back to default settings but strangely enough the version number has changed

However, I must be running the latest version otherwise my 4870 wouldn't work.
:o

Lucky, i did brick my mobo early last week due to dodgy BIOS update :/ even did it through the BIOS and not some windows software, just unlucky me :(

I got that error with my P35C-DS3R after my memory went kaput. Cleared the CMOS and all was well again though!

In other news, bricking a board sounds like it may hurt the rear end!

DO NOT TOUCH THE F10a bios it is the only one that will lock up my pc and cause other problems i am using f6 at the minute and that is stable as a rock. I havn't tried f7 as i read somewhere there were problems with that one as well.

I'll avoid the current updates for now then, even with the Q-Flash method. Don't wanna risk bricking this board again, only had it for a month or so.
