Hi

I have a worrying problem. It seems that a lot of things I download or even run are producing CRC errors or Im being told the files are corrupt. Ive downloaded LFS and rFactor 3 times each, each with Errors. I ran some Isos the other day, and got some errors about corrupt files within the isos.

Anyone got any idea? Which part of my PC is dieing?

Cheers

nooooooooo!

The problems were there before i OCed my CPU, and my RAM is not OCed, its running at exactly 800Mhz. I have manually set the timmings to 5 5 5 12, could that be anything?

Im going to grab the latest chipset drivers and use them, and run some memtest to check ram. Is there anything to test the performance of your hard drive?

cheers

Sorry, I didnt mean performance, I mean scanning for bad sectors or anything that seems dodgy or something? Want to rule out there being a problem with my drive or SATA controller...

you know, sometimes i hate it when people are right.

Just ran MemTest, over 100 errors a second on one stick, Id say thats fairly dead then!

Off to RMA the bugger now. Its Corsair so should (??) have a decent warranty. Will OcUK/Corsair want both sticks back as I bought them as a pair? As I have a fairly useless machine if they take both..

Does anyone think that maybe being left in my Uni house that was empty for 3 weeks that can get quite cold when the heatings off, and fairly warm when on (it was on 2h a day over Christmas) could have contributed to this failure?

I have noticed problems since I came back to uni, before overclocking my CPU and fiddling with the ram. Its marked as 800Mhz and 5 5 5 12 so will be fine at these. Windows ran fine, I was just getting these CRC and corruption errors. Ive reset the BIOS and tired the RAM in all slots. 1 stick is fine, the other is creating errors like nobodies business!

Will I have to send both sticks back as a pair becasue thats how I bought them? Im currently running on a single stick.

Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 and 2x 1GB Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400 5 5 5 12 800Mhz

Its been fine for a year, and one stick is still absolutely fine

No, its erros when ever anything large was run, extracting large files, installing from alrge installer, running things from CD. Definately a RAM problem.

Ive spoken to someone whos RMAed to Corsair before and they only had to send the single stick not the twin pack. Will let you know how I get on
