Driving into work today, just approaching the car park i was a bit heavy footed with the gas!

My wheels start to spin on the ice which i did not see, so i slammed my brakes on, but my car didnt stop, i kept going forward!

Lukkily, the only thing infront of me was a kerb and a low mud embankment. My car went straight for it, my wheels hit the kerb, and the car stopped.

No one saw me, no damage done (i checked for any leaks and visual damage), but it was not a funny situation to be in!

I've never been out of control like that (it was very slow), but was pretty scary!

I'm glad it was all slow, i now know that ice is very dangerous, and in this type of weather its best to go slow now! (my driving has been a bit fast recently, yesterday took the biscuit, £10 lasted me only 40 miles!)

Lesson learned...drive slow and cautious when required!

You mean common sense didn't tell you this when the weather started getting bad? :o

Proves my point about common sense not being all that common :D

Don't worry - These kind of incidents we all learn from... and that's what makes us better drivers ;)

This weather's great - I'm constantly pulling out of junctions sideways ;)

Difference is, i cant control a car going any other way than its intended use. (if that makes sense)

Think i will be useless in an accident, i need skid pan training!

My car's tucked up in the garage, last night it was about 0* so thats the point i decided car is staying put. Oh well, freshly painted garage and a clean car means i can give it a coat of polish whilst its away :D

I'm just being a prat anyway - it'll catch me out one day and then I'll look like a right twit.

You don't have to be Colin McCrae to drive in the wet/ice, you just have to be sensible and take it easy. :)

hey sanjay, quick question, but when you were sliding, did you once think about coming off the brakes or was you hoping that they would stop you?

Last night, I was following a car taking the 3rd exit off a small roundabout, in 2nd gear at about 15mph.

As you come off the roundabout it splits into 2 lanes and the road bends around quite sharply.

I indicate to come off at the 3rd exit, the car in front moves over to the left hand lane and I move to the right hand lane, put my foot down and the car loses grip and starts to understeer, heading straight for a rather high curb/central reservation

With only a short distance between my wheels and the curb, I lift off and being mid bend, the back end starts to kick out as the front grips (I can NEVER get it to kick out when actually trying to provoke it). I put my foot back down and give it a bit of opposite lock and somehow manage to get out of the situation without causing an accident.

Scared the living **** out of me.

same here, might do some next year

this is the first time ive drove in ice/frost and been a young lad i thought it was great :o

that was until i went sideways into a curb

felt like a right tit

oh well lesson learnt and i drive far more carefully in this weather

the roads round here seem so greasy lately. when im on my way to work at 7am theyre usually icey too :D

i want it to snow this xmas, usually ends up with a whole world of fun.

Haha yeah my standard MX-5 is enough to handle in this weather, your turbo monster must be mental.

I've lost it a few times in the last few weeks, only little slides coming out of junctions but enough to give you a scare. I'm just glad the car is easy to correct as I'd be stuffed if it wasn't. :D

Yeah it's very flattering and very forgiving to drive. Awesome fun also if you mean to do it. Sometimes I think "I really wish I didn't have to constantly correct it" but sliding's so fun (when you mean to do it anyway) ;) I'm going to get myself into a pickle one of these days... :o

I can't get the power down at the moment in any gear except until 4th :p

i've been caught at twice, both times at low speeds on the backrounds round our estate.

first time went to broke at the end of our street. nothing happenend just carried on sliding

second time was comming round the corner and back stepped out. being a picasso though it just stopped sliding after a few seconds and didnt do anything of any interest :(

last year, we went to the metro centre and the roads were clear, by the time we left, there was about 2-3" of snow on all the roads with an icy base, drove home at about 15-20mph and at every roundabout it seemed a car had gone into it, there were cars down ditches on the A689, i wasn't very confident to say the least but i got home safe after about 2 hours (usually takes 40 minutes or so). Not had any incidents yet this year though.
