Why doesn't it say in the Sigma manual that you have to pull the ring back to manually focus.... was all set to return the lens but did a google search first thank god

On a similar note though when I got my S2 IS I spent ages playing around trying to get a feel for it and noticed I had an extra icon on the display/viewfinder (wind icon) couldn't work out what it was, but the "little lady" said try the manual and sure enough it was there, turns out it was a wind reduction icon for the mic, needless to say I haven't turned it back on.
