Some of you may have seen my other thread about this but I am just double checking before I buy anything.

Would this upgrade from my current rig (see sig) make my computer last another 4 years for gaming?

PSU: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-008-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1084

Motherboard: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-356-AS

CPU: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-244-AM&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=

Heatsink: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-070-AK&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

+ Hopefully overclock the CPU to 3.8GHz and above.
+ Upgrade to X64 bit so all 4GB RAM count.

Thanks in advance. :)

The heatsink link is just sending me to the ocuk homepage.

I don't have an AMD in my current build so I cannot comment on that.

The psu is good, BUT it has loads of thick braided cables. I have the 750w version (onlt because it was on this week only and was the same price as the 650w) and it is almost identical.

I can send you a pic of the inside of my case so you can see if it will be okay or not. :)

The graphics card in there is not my current one. My current one is much bigger.

*Changed link so it works*

That's a nice CPU. nice PSU, nice Motherboard and nice heatsink.

I don't know whether the GTX 260 will last 4/5 years though.

It will fit, but you need to do some cable management. My case (Antec 300) is a midi case and so there is not a huge amount of space for me to put all the cables.
You really need to tidy up the cables for your new build:).

I don't think that heatsink is that good. I will let an AMD owner recommend one rather than me suggesting though.

How do I tidy up the cables?

And also, I meant this heatsink:

Either put them behind the motherboard tray (cheap cases won't allow this).
Or use tie wraps to put the unused cables into an empty dvd bay.
Alternatively, buy a modular psu so you only plug in the cables you need.

The cable tidyness isn't just for looks, it is for airflow, as even with the best hsf there is, if there is no airflow then temperatures are affected quite a lot.

I would go for an ATX motherboard - you are more likely to put a sound card or TV card in there (or a second GPU), then you are to move to a smaller MATX case.

I'd go for this motherboard - you've got a PCIEx1 slot for a sound card, three PCI slots (one or two useable with the GTX260) for USB cards, TV cards and the like, and another PCIE lane, which you could use for USB3.0 expansion, or some other useful card.

4 years is a long time in computers, you don't know what you may want - this gives a little more flexibility.

From your picture above, and from a quick google search of your motherboard, it is ATX, and so yes it will fit. You aren't planning on adding a second GTX260 are you?

I'm not planning on doing so, no. But will I be able to do so if I think about doing so in a couple of years?

With the 785G chipset you would not be able to run a pair of GTX260 graphics cards in SLI as you would need a motherboard with a chipset like the 980 to do so!

The following motherboard can also do symmetrical Crossfire:

OTH there are two 770 based motherboards available for under £80 which have a 8 phase VRM,USB3 and SATA3:

Ah well.

It doesn't matter too much. I might just have to get a good graphics card to upgrade to when the time comes in a couple of years. :)

What is crossfire anyway?

Crossfire is SLI for ATI cards. The new Intel chipsets support both Crossfire and SLI, but the AMD boards rely on the chipset for either to work (so an NVidia chipset for SLI and an AMD chipset for CF).

I'd go with the £75 motherboard suggested by myself and CAT-THE-FIFTH - the extra PCIE slot won't be used anyway, so there's not much point in forking out extra so you can get x8, when it'll only be a x4 or x1 card in there anyway.
