Hey guys,

I'm looking to upgrade my current gaming PC to something a little more modern and stable. I've currently got a Phenom II x4 @ 3.21GHz running on a Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H, 4GB of VERY temperamental Corsair XMS3 ram and an old faithful 1024mb HD5850, all powered by a 700w OCZ PSU.

Im looking to spend about £500ish to get something newer for gaming now and in the not to distant future. Don't need monitors, mouse, keyboard, speakers, PSU or a storage HDD (But I am possibly interested in a smallish SSD to run windows off - opinions please :)) I am in need of a case as my current Asus A+ case is dying on me (plus its the size of a bus and twice as loud.) but nothing fancy, just something nice to build in with OK cable management!

I've got a Fenrir Titan cooling my current CPU so i'm planning to reuse that as long as it would fit into the new case, if not i'm open to suggestions!

Yeah so £500+/-! If i left anything out just yell at me and ill amend it!

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 670 OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (N670GTX-PM2D2GD5/OC) £287.99
1 x BitFenix Shinobi USB3.0 Gaming Case - Black £44.99
Total : £346.48 (includes shipping : £11.25).

Try that first and maybe upgrade the CPU/RAM/Board later?

This could be a plan actually, The Mobo and CPU arnt my real problem, its just my fairly old GPU and my shocking ram that i need to sort out. The ram requires reseating every time i power off the PC before it will turn back on again :(

I've totally lost track on Nvidia GPUs lately, where does the 670 sit in the grand scheme of things?

Think thats almost the exact spec that the "PC Gamer Rig" is currently specced to, i had a look at it and its defiantly an option, just need to see if i can get away with not getting a new CPU and Mobo at the moment!

So,

GTX 670 is a definite option and id say that new ram is also definitely required so probably the Teamgroup Elite

Whats everyone's opinions on my current Cpu/mobo? I've never really experimented with OCing to get a bit more out of my CPU as my current cooling situation in the A+ case is abysmal but id probably have a play about if i got a new case.

Also good, smallish SSDs? Thinking 128gb area just running windows the the essentials, then run everything else off my Seagate 1TB. Or would this cause more problems than its worth i.e bottlenecking because of the read speed?

Do you have a aftermarket heatsink for you PhenomII?

If you get one, then you can also migrate it to a newer CPU/Board socket type.

Overclocking the phenom is easy due to the unlocked multiplier.

Yeah got a Fenrir Titan on it at the moment! I've heard its pretty easy to OC, its the main reason i brought it when i did, just never actually got round to Ocing it at all!

Its just a case of increasing the the multi at its most simplest.

Plenty of guides if you Google it.
