30mph speed limit. High street.

I was doing approx 20-25mph when a ginger kid approx 4 ran from between two parked cars causing me to break suddenly.

Closest ive ever come to accidently hitting someone with my car.

I like to put my foot down, but I don't get why people do it near school and parks.

Wouldn't be nice hitting someone, but if you new you were doing the speed limit or under, it wouldn't be as bad mentality I don't think. Also for the ginger kid

This just shows the importance of keeping at or below the speed limit when driving in heavily populated areas where there are cars parked on the street.

Yup.

Sometimes doing 30 in a 30 is way to much, going between parked cars etc. Drove for the conditions.

I will admit on an open road I'll do the opposite though.

If you’d been doing 30, you would have passed the point where the kid ran out before he got there.

Much safer.

Yeah driving to the conditions should come naturally to an experienced driver.

If you're passing close to a row of parked cars you can't examine each possible hazard point as you pass at 30, so just slow down.

Also, why do many people generally drive so fast in the city?

There's lots of 30mph dual carriageways where I live with traffic lights and junctions every hundred metres or so. People hug the outside lane, scream away from the lights and then brake heavily for the next inevitable red light.

Can't they see they're going no faster than people just cruising in the inside lane?

So, hypothetically, if you hit that child and caused serious injury, or worse death, would you be prosecuted?

Yes, you have killed a child. But it was 100% not your fault (assuming you were driving completely within the law, responsibly etc).

I would assume so, it would be argued that the road conditions was not suited for 30mph.
30mph is a limit not a target.
Probably get charged for driving without due care
