Hi guys, I have recently bought an Alpenfohn K2 cooler for my 3570k. I have just built my system and have noticed that the fan on the cooler is working fine for a few minutes and then decides to stop once I'm in windows. Is this normal? i.e. does the fan only kick in when the CPU is under load??

I noticed that the middle fan sometimes takes a while to boot in on start up but i have disabled the (auto fan heat setting) in the Bios so they run at full speed all the time, they are still very quiet.

I have disabled all fan speed settings in bios so that the fans on the cpu cooler will run full speed. While I am in BIOS (for a few minutes) they run at full speed, around 1600 rpm. As soon as I boot up windows 7 the fans stop.

Real temp is telling me temps of 25-35c

Is there any other options in BIOS which might keep the fans running 24/7? It seems to me that the fans will kick in once the cpu is under load and I don't want to do that in case they don't start!

I'm using GA-Z77x D3H. I have just disabled turbo boost, speed step etc and the fan seems to be running now although not going flat out.

I'm getting idle temps of mid 30s.

I've just run prime95 and the fans definitely kicked in and ran at full speeds. So for some unknown reason to me, the cpu fan speeds only increase/run full rpm when the cpu is under load even though I have adjusted the BIOS settings so that they run full speed all the time.

Perhaps updating the Bios might do something?

Did you look at the CPU Fan Control Mode in the bios (page 47 on the manual)

From your answer I would say yes you found it.

Check that you are not loading any Gigabyte sofeware on bootup that is taking control of your CPU cooling.

But I would say idle temp of mid 30s are fine what are you load temps

After reading your post I have just checked and noticed easy tune 6 has been running on start up. I will reboot and see if that has had an effect.

Ran prime for 5 mins just to test the fan and max temps for each core were 54 53 57 48c
