Okay, I'm trying to fit this cooler to mu gigabyte z87 ud3h mobo. I've been working on it for roughly 3 hours. Problem is when I put the screws through and then put the washers on then the brackets there isn't enough of the head of the screws to attach the nut.

Anyone got any experience of this cooler? The so-called manual for this thing is an abomination.

There is only 1 backplate - however, there are multiple points the fixtures will poke through to the otherside of the motherboard from!

You will have to do some bending when fitting the bracket to the backplate, but it should only be a few mm.

Next noob question, I'm attaching the 2 fans to this monster, but my case (corsair carbide 500r) has a fan at the rear and another in the side panel. Do I need to remove these or leave them as additional airflow?

Choice is yours really!

If you follow the rules of positive pressure, you'll be fine!

As long as there is enough air within the case, ie need more (or the same) numbers pointing inwards than outwards
