Hey guys

In case any of you missed this, we recently received delivery of the K2 Cooler from Alpenfohn. There are some reviews below, and to boot, it looks better than the Noctua D14 :)

alphenfohn k2 mount doom cpu cooler (socket lga1156/1155/1366/am2/am2+/am3/am3+/fm1) @ £69.98 inc vat

for ages myths and legends surround one of the scariest mountains on earth. icy winds and heavy snow fall had been the reason all attempts to reach the crest failed …
you might not be surprised that the k2 inspired us to choose the name for our latest creation. by using 8 heatpipes in a twin tower design, dual wing boost configuration and mntal-airflow technology the new alpenföhn k2 reches highest performance at lowest noise.

- twin tower with 8 x 6mm heatpipes
- the new twin tower design can reach best results in noise and performance by using a combination of 2 fans.
- the trapezoid finshape ensures better compatibility with vga coolers by keeping the distance to the pci-x slot
- all contact surfaces between fins, heatpipes and the baseplate are soldered.

heatpipe/baseplate
- the u-shape heatpipes offer a large connection area to the baseplate for a better heat absorption
- by cnc machining the surface of the baseplate is perfectly even and the thermal transfer is optimized.
fins
- k2 is the first cooler to feature the brand new minimized noise transfer at low airflow-technology. - the advanced finstructure influences the airflow through the heatsink to increase the heat transfer to the air.
wing boost 120/140mm dual-combination
- equipped with integrated decoupling elements, wb technology and hd bearing k2 comes with each one 120mm and 140mm wing boost fans.

120mm fan
- fan size: 120x120x25mm
- fan speed: 1500 rpm
- airflow: 108 m³/h
- bearing: hd-bearing(hydraulic bearing)
140mm fan
- size: 140x140x25mm
- fan speed: 1100 rpm
- airflow: 104,7 m³/h
- bearing: hd-bearing(hydraulic bearing)

only £69.98 inc vat.

I thought the Noctua D14 was big! DAYUM that thing is massive! Be interesting to see how it performs compared to the D14.

Interesting. Yet the D14 a few pounds more expensive might be a worthwhile alternative for folks looking for insane air cooling :D

Think I read on vortez that it wasn't quite as good as the D-14 or Silver Arrow, but was better built. I only vaguely remember from a review I saw last week.

I'm actually going to be getting a second retail sample to retest since Alpenfohn claimed to have given me a preproduction sample to review, so there might be some further performance gains.

I received a second K2 sample last week from their production batch (i.e. what's sold on OCUK) and performance is much improved over my first sample, enough to match the likes of the SA and the Noctua NH-D14! I will be updating my review with the new results at some point.

Best thing about it is its current price at £59.99 which I've been told is not a temporary thing either. Also note that the K2 comes with LGA2011 screws as well.

so BUY NOW!

Looks fantastic. Would the standard shaped Alpenfohn wingboost 140mm fan, (black and blue) fit in the centre section?

Damn, didn't notice this one whilst looking for an upgrade for my TRU (non extreme version). I plumped for the D14 for the same price in the end. Couldn't find a Silver Arrow :( Hopefully the D14 should make a fair difference to my temps.

They won't unfortunately because the fan clips only fit 120mm mounting holes and the corners of the standard square 140mm fan get in the way. The bundled circular 140mm fan should perform the same though. However, Alpenfohn do make fan clips that will work so I'm sure they'd be more than happy to send some if you emailed them.

Wouldnt really be a big issue tbh. As the middle 140mm fan will not be very visible. Id be swapping the 120mm out for one of the blue bladed wingboosts i already have. Speed is identical to the one supplied with the k2. I love black and blue as a colour scheme. Think ill order this. Nice also that the supplied fans are PWM as well.

I'd say it's easily the best looking cooler I've seen plus given how people find the SA and NH-D14 a bit marmite, the K2 is such an excellent alternative.

To be honest I'm relieved, for a while there I thought Noctua stands a chance at singlehandedly bringing back the dreadful beige to the industry. :p

If I didn't have an H100 lying around this is definitely what I would go for, air and all.
