Does anyone know if I need to mount both fans on the K2 Mount Doom?

Processor is i7-3770K but will most likely be running at stock speeds/volts.

I could, but I like two 120's :D
It's only about 3°C difference as evidenced by my own testing.

Btw, nothing wrong with getting something nice, but if you're not gonna OC, maybe you could save a bit of cash and grab something less expensive?

That's some good empirical evidence, thanks!

I totally agree, but this is actually for a work PC, so I'm not paying the bill. ;) I may try overclocking it but I can't really spend all day alternating between the UEFI and Prime95!! :D

Hey, if it ain't your money... :D

I don't know whether you even need to OC, but you could always just do a simple multiplier change to 4Ghz without having to worry much about voltages and stuff.

@ Uncle Petey, do you have both fans connected to CPU header or separate mate? PWM managed or full blast for those temps, I got a K2 and not getting temps like those on i5 3570k just wondered if I should split the fans up or not

Just wanted to put an update on here to help any future "searchers".

I'm running my i7-3770k at 4.2GHz (turbo) with stock volts. The Alpenföhn K2 only has the centre 120mm fan installed and the temps are good.

Running Intel Burn Test does get it quite toasty - a couple of cores will get to 70/71C, and the CPU fan will spin up to full speed - but it's nowhere near thermal throttling.

Case is an Antec P280 with all 3 case fans running as exhaust on low speed.

^Nice results.
What are you using to monitor temps?

Sorry man, I totally missed this post :o

For that test, they were running at 1450rpm and they're daisy chained together.
I don't use auto fan adjustment as I find that it goes by wildly inaccurate mobo temp readings.
I use either a fan controller or Asus Fan Xpert2 to manually set fan speeds.

It probably works better with higher speed fans, but you can run them separately at different speeds for slightly better results.
Rough example: Front fan @1k, middle fan @1.5k and so on. Ymmv :)

Your temps are higher due to Intel using crap thermal paste on Ivybridge cpus :(
