alpenfohn matterhorn pure cooler AM4 adapter

Its worth speeding that extra £2 and not getting the cheapest thermal paste, that ^^^^^ Thermal Grizzly is good stuff.

alphenfohn matterhorn pure edition cooler? its quite big, biggest that would fit in my case.

isnt the tdp of the 1700x about the same at 95W?

I run mine with grizzly at 1.174v in a reasonably cool case. Depends if you want to push for 4. Put it this way, I can't do 4.5 because of the cooler under stress load as its easily 80c plus. I have same issue on old setup, case width.

Yes, That cooler isn't going to have any problems with the R7 1700X, Intel CPU run hot anyway because they use Thermal Compound to bond the Heat Spreader to the Die lid, this instead of soldering them.

My 4690K easily gets past 80c at 4.5Ghz when pushed hard, its sitting under one of these.... https://www.overclockers.co.uk/nzxt...t-120mm-variable-speed-control-hs-012-nx.html the power consumption isn't the problem, as i already explained its the crappy way Intel bond the Heat Spreader to the Die lid, its a very inefficient way to dissipate heat from the die, but its cheap.....
AMD solder all their Heat Spreaders.

ill probably run stock. i tried overclocking my current 6600k. got interested in benchmarks etc for a while but then got bored and put it back to stock.

the ram i have already shoud be suitable? its ddr4 3200mhz but i run it at 2133 currently because i was seeing instability.

Yes, the Ram is fine.

i notice the am4 boards have black plastic mounting for coolers already attached.

will i need to remove this in order to fit my tower cooler or does it attach to this black piece directly?

bit worried that because all ive bought is an accessory kit that there wont be any instructions.

I think you will need to remove those plastic brackets.

the kit i bought (see link in first post) doesnt come with a replacement backplate, only some metal brackets.

does this mean i use the backplate i have with the cooler currently?

Yes, the new brackets will fit with the existing backplate.
