First of all, hello from a long time lurker, first time poster.

Just purchased a 6000+ and decided to try the Alpine 64 PWM ,not the Pro model, with it. But on looking at the box it says "- upto Athlon 64 X2 5600+".

I wont be overclocking at the moment, but may try (first time) when I get a new MB. Will the cooler be enough for the 6000+ at stock? And is it actually any better than the stock cooler other than it has MX-2 pre applied?

Thanks in advance.

hi mate - and welcome to the forums

the athlon 6000+ should be a nice little chip
have you got a mobo for it yet?

the alpine 64 is an ok cooler if you are not overclocking
if it fits the am2 platform then it will fit on your chips socket config
and it will be a bit better than stock cooling
personally i wouldnt expect any mad overclocks on it - you would need something a little more substantial
- it will be quiet though

Thanks.

No I don't have a new MB for it yet, it's going to go in my M2R32-MVP (580X) with a 4850. I will get a new MB, a 790FX chipset most likely, around christmas and possibly a second 4850.

I wouldn't try overclocking without a substantial cooler, its just a filler in the meantime.

Just fitted the HD 4850 and the X2 6000+ (first cpu upgrade) with the Alpine 64, and all is well. Idles around 35, and 46 load.

Making Warhammer Online run smooth at 1440x900 full effects, full AA and full AF, with lots of people on the screen.

Thanks again rjkoneill.

no problems mate - looks like good temps on that
is the 46'c at 100% load?

with the 4850, you may be able to push the res a little and not take a performance hit
