Im looking to upgrade my ice in me passat, to a headunit which will connect to the ipod aswell.
This is my choice

but my concern is going through the kca-420i interface box.

I have loads of playlists on the ipod, whats it like to navigate through. i.e. if i flick from playlist to playlist, is it a case of a second delay or something?
how about navigating by album, artist, is this any better. I gotta be honest, im keen on this headunit, but if its not usable with a 420i, its not really an option for me.

ive seen the 'full speed ipod connection' headunit (9850Ri), but im not keen on this unit.
Interested in hearing if anyone's got any firsthand experience of the kca-420
Ta.

I had the 9835R and the 420i. The quality of the sound was really good, the navigation was dire. It was extremly slow taking forever to scroll throught tracks etc. I don't know if the newer models are improved but from what I understand the new one 9850 is the only one which runs at a descent usable speed.

thanks guys, but the 9850 is silver, and will stick out as a sore thumb on my black dash.
Ive heard mixed feelings about the 420i, some say its bearable, some say not!
leaving me in my dillema

I use the 420i, I find it ok, it's by no means fantastic but it's easily bareable. As long as you're ipod's organised then there's no problem really, I use Playlists too.

Go in a Halfords and you can plug you're own ipod in to have a play :)
