I'm not likely to be doing anything overly demanding on it so eventually decided I didn't need a SSD or a 5870 or an i7 920 etc. Probably wont be overclocking it hence the chapish motherboard. Just wanted to make sure I've got all the bits I need & that they should go together cause I've only ever done a couple of builds before!

Should probably have asked BEFORE ordering it, but got a bit over-excited and couldn't wait...

Edit: It should be a fairly large step up I hope, given I'm going from an Athlon64 X2 3800+ (2GHz) and a Radeon X1650.

You may want some thermal paste of some kind if you are using an alternative cooler, i don't know if the ACF7 comes with any of the bottom, but it's normally best to use some decent stuff than the standard grey gloop anyway :) but other than that i can't spot anything of major importance that is missing

I presume you'll be using it as a gaming machine by the looks of the specs.
Seems fine to me mate. I know what you mean about getting excited and just rushing, I do it whenever I buy a new rig hehe.

Enjoy it!

Oh and welcome to the forums both of you :)

And just to add, from the looks ofyour edit, it should be a huge step up, hope it all goes well and you enjoy it :D

Yeah it'll be a gaming rig, not been able to play a few recent games on my old one :( Also got myself a copy of windows 7 so seemed the right time for a new shiny :D

Totally forgot about thermal paste, but luckily the cooler says it comes "Pre-applied ARCTIC MX-2" so hopefully that'll do - can always pick up some other stuff if thats no good?

Cheers guys :)

According to the Arctic cooling website, the cooler comes with MX-2 pre-applied to the base. This is pretty good stuff, and probably not worth the effort/expense replacing it with something slightly better like MX-3.

Edit: Beaten to it :)

I assume you won't be gaming too heavily, and with this in mind the stuff you ordered looks great. Have fun putting it together :D

Yeah I'm not an ultra-serious gamer or anything, just would like to play most games, even on lowish settings is generally fine for me. If it'll handle high settings on some games then cool, if not I'm not too worried.

Can't wait to get my hands on the bits, building the system is almost more fun than using it! Cheers everyone.

Well you'll certainly be able to play 99.9% of current games on high settings with that setup :) i currently have (until an hours time) an E8400/4870/4gb ram and that plays crysis on high settings and pretty much everything else i throw at it plays at 1920x1200 on mostly high settings

Shouldnt have a worry in the world with your setup there :)

Sweet :) figured it'd handle most stuff, good to hear from someone who's not just taking a stab in the dark though!
I'm gathering you're upgrading your rig shortly then.... good luck with the new one :) I hope you enjoy it every bit as much as I enjoy mine!

It's already at my house, im just waiting to finish work to set it all up :D i'll no doubt post pictures of all the kit in a bit, personally i've never ordered a whole PCs worth of kit before, it's always (always being about 8 years of PC enthusiasm) been part by part building and upgrading

So it should be fun and i feel like its christmas morning at the moment :D

Curses! Got it all today and managed to snap one of the CPU fan plastic clip bits. Not sure if this is why the fan does not work but means I'm having to buy another cause I broke it so can't just get a replacement. Given its just a bit of plastic and should work fine I dunno if it was broken already or not, but thems the breaks. Clumsy me!

Ah well, the rest of it looks sweeeeet!
