Alt code gone a bit funky

I needed to type out the alt code for infinity ( alt+236 ) but get this ý so have to type the word instead which looks crap

Others seem to be ok,.. for instance the half inch is normal alt+171 ½ and the quarter inch is ok too alt+172 ¼

Have i got a gremlin ?

Try using the character map? In accessories - system tools.

Thanks Fan - yes i found it in the search box of character map.

The code appears to be U+221E . Thats not an Alt code is it ? I thought alt codes used alt+xxxx ? Can i assign the code so that i can type alt+something ?

I'm not sure really. I tried copying characters from the map to the forum and they came up as different characters. Wires crossed somewhere.

Well i can highlight the character and copy and paste here as you can see above, but having to open accessories > tools > map > search > copy > paste is long winded.

Better than nothing though
